Nutrient problems?

It would seem that i have managed to do something to my tomato, and one of the small chilli’s.

I was trying out foliar feeding,I guessed I over fed and this is what happened.  The tomato has leaf curl and is going black. The one chilli’s leaves are developing black spots all over.

To be fair, the last few days have had some extreme weather swings, we had a 35+ days followed by a cold rainy day. So I think it might be a combination of these factors.

Another article states it might be a Phosphorus deficiency, but the other symptoms of this are not present. But I am no horticultural master, so I could be completey off on this.

Anyone got an idea of what is happening?

That looks like physiological leaf roll as all of the leaves are affected. It might be caused by over-watering. That’s also a big tomato plant for the small container so it can be difficult to get the right balance between over and under-watering, and the rain doesn’t help.

Try using a waterproof mulch cover after flushing the container and adding fresh nutrient and skip the foliar feeding ;-)

Hopefully after a few days it will stabilize and then it might be best if you transplanted it into your garden or moved it into a larger container with good drainage and a reservoir in the bottom aka an earthbox.

HI Kieran. I do believe you are right on that. I think the hot/cold snap + rain has triggered the leaf curl. I did some reaserch last night and I think it also has a Potassium deficiency too, which will explain the dark discouloration.

I flushed it with some water, and mixed up a fresh batch of nutrient, hopefully that will sort it. I have also got all the necessary thing to move it into a bigger container, will get to that as soon a I can.

    Thanks for the help :)
